Each CD-ROM contains a seamless set of aerial photographs covering a single county and is priced at £16.95 plus £2.95 p&p per county. However, if you wish to purchase more than one County CD, you can purchase each extra CD at the reduced price of £15.95 for your second CD and £13.95 for your third CD plus the standard postage and packaging charge of £2.95 per delivery, ie:

• 2 County CDs: 1st CD £16.95 + 2nd CD (£15.95) + £2.95 p&p = £35.85
• 3 County CDs: 1st CD £16.95 + 2nd CD (£15.95) + 3rd CD (£13.95) + £2.95 p&p = £49.80

Regarding Scotland and Wales, apologies but the aerial imagery on CD is not yet available from us.

We have evaluated the CD-ROMs and have found that they are an ideal tool for the amateur / professional archaeologist. In fact, we would go so far as to say that they are one of the most exciting and useful products to come onto the Archaeology UK market since ARCHI, our database of more than 95,000 UK archaeological sites!

For example, our evaluation has found that the CDs can enable you to:

• gain a broad picture of an area’s archaeology and geography very quickly by locating ancient paths, tracks, settlements, fortifications, banks, ditches, old river courses and stream courses which are often only visible as cropmarks from the air. Also, it is easy to follow roads, paths, streams and rivers and locate cropmarks suggesting archaeological activity along these routes
• field patterns and boundaries are very clear on the photographs thus making it possible to spot the characteristic patterns of old / ancient field systems. For example, the narrow strips of medieval fields are often easy to spot and the small patchwork field arrangement of Roman field systems can be seen on many of the CDs. Field shapes can also be used as an indicator of ancient settlements and many square miles can be examined for such shapes in an amazingly short space of time
• the measuring tool makes it very easy to measure distances along Roman roads and test the theory that the Romans placed their settlements at regular intervals along roads eg every 7-8 / 14-16 / 20-30 Roman miles. Further, research from around the world suggests that settlements are dispersed approximately 3-4 miles from each other. Therefore, the measuring tool could be used to test this hypothesis by looking for cropmarks within 3-4 miles of known sites
• the measuring tool can be used to measure the dimensions of known archaeological sites, thus helping to further one’s understanding of archaeological site typology and it can also be can be used to measure and determine the spatial relationship of archaeological sites
• the co-ordinates (Eastings, Northings) of particular areas in fields can be read from the screen thus enabling the user to maintain accurate records of areas of archaeological interest or findspots
